TAKE ACTION! SUPPORT SOUTH AFRICA’S APPLICATION TO THE ICJ

On Friday, January 26 2024, the World Court has affirmed that Israel has been engaging in at least a plausible case of genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. The World Court is recognizing the existence of a serious risk of genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip and calling for provisional measures, mainly that Israel puts an end to all genocidal acts. The measures also call for the immediate opening up for Gaza to humanitarian aid, and for the prevention and punishment of incitement to genocide by Israeli officials.

Judges were clear: over 25,000 Palestinians are dead, 1.7 million people are displaced, 93% are facing crisis levels of hunger. The devastation is undeniable.

ICJ ruling has broader implications for all States – as all are obligated both to refrain from committing genocide, and to prevent and punish it wherever it occurs. We remind all state parties to the Convention that they have legal obligations to ensure implementation of the ‘provisional measures’, to prevent genocide and to ensure that they are not complicit in genocide.

Therefore ECCP calls on all European countries to force Israel to comply with the ICJ ruling, to ensure the implementation of provisional measures and to fully support the International Court of Justice proceedings initiated by South Africa in order to stop Israel’s annihilation and genocide in Gaza.

We need to ACT NOW and pressure our governments to force Israel to comply with the ICJ ruling!
